Ok, so first off what is an autofill address?
If you use Outlook when you start typing in the TO: Field (or CC / BCC), Outlook will start trying to match what you are typing to addresses you have previously used.
This seems very clever, but users can be confused by several things:
a) These addresses are not necessarily in the Address Book
b) Often they default to ones that are incorrect for what you are typing and you send to a wrong address inadvertently.
c) They seem impossible to get rid of.
Well, after continuing to send to admin@acustomer.com.au instead of admin@ireckon.com I had to find out how to clear some of these from my Autofill list.
The Autofill is generated from email addresses you send to (or reply to ) that successfully send. (Note that if an address you normally send to gets rejected for some reason it will automatically remove itself from the list)
So the big question is – How do you delete them if they are not in your Address Book? (note deleting that email from your Address book doesn’t remove them either).
Step 1. Open Outlook
Step 2. Start a New Email
Step 3. Start typing the email address that you want to remove e.g. admin@ (don’t type it all).
Step 4. Using your arrow keys on your keyboard move down to and highlight the offending email address.
Step 5. Press the [ Delete ] Key on your keyboard.
Voila! It is cleared (until you send to it again) and is easy to repeat once you know how.
I hope this helps you from sending messages to the wrong people and removes one of those annoying little frustrations!
Thanks to Andrew (our SSA) for solving this one for me, and “All Aces Services” for being understanding!
