Winter is a terrible time for weight control. Ask anyone and they will most likely tell you they exercise less, eat more and generally gain a few kilos over even our modest Queensland winter. Everyone knows it happens, and yet very few of us bother to do anything about it… thinking that “it’s just the way it is.” If you have lost weight over summer, you should be proud of your achievement. Further still you should be excited about keeping that weight off. But how exactly do you keep your motivation levels high?

If you have lost weight over summer, you should be proud of your achievement. Further still you should be excited about keeping that weight off. But how exactly do you keep your motivation levels high? How do you stop those cravings for comfort food or keep active enough that the few extra treats you may have don’t add a few extra kilos?
Hiring a treadmill or exercise bike over the winter can improve you chances. There is nothing worse than braving the cold and forcing yourself to exercise in the dark outside during winter. Exercise indoors and watch TV whilst you workout.
Joining a local gym for a few months can also help to keep your motivation high and perhaps lose even a few more kilos this winter.
Of course using Theraband or an exercise ball is another great way of getting a total body indoors workout (Yes in front of the TV if you want!) for a fraction of the cost. Come and see me at Tree of life Woolloongabba for a personalized fitness program.
Group exercise classes are a great way to keep motivated and keep moving over winter. Having a health professional to keep you motivated (who won’t yell and scream at you in the early hours of the morning) and a group of likeminded people to exercise along with is known to increase your chances of exercising more.
